Ask for an SDS that can be traced to the exact manufacturer and battery supplied.

“MSDS” is an older name still used in searches; SDS is the standardized term. Review the manufacturer/supplier identity, product and model/series, chemistry, capacity or Wh where relevant, issue/revision date, language, completeness of the standard sections, emergency contact and consistency with labels and other shipping documents.

A lithium-ion polymer, LiPo or LiFePO4 material SDS is not automatically the SDS for a finished battery pack. A competitor’s file or a near-match model is also not a substitute. Regulatory duties vary by country and use; in the United States, OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard analysis can depend on the article exemption and exposure circumstances.

DOCUMENT OBJECT

Confirm whether the file covers a substance, cell, battery pack or battery in equipment.

Files that discuss lithium metal, cathode powder or electrolyte are not interchangeable with a finished rechargeable battery pack SDS.

Where can I download a lithium battery MSDS?

Obtain the current SDS from the manufacturer or supplier responsible for the exact model. This guide does not offer generic files as substitutes for HP, Dell or another named product.

Is a LiFePO4 SDS different from a lithium-ion SDS?

LiFePO4 is a lithium-ion chemistry, but the file should still match the actual product, manufacturer, model/series and revision. Do not use a raw-material SDS for a finished pack.

Is SDS the same as UN 38.3?

No. SDS supports hazard communication; UN 38.3 addresses transport testing. Neither alone guarantees carrier acceptance or full market compliance.
